Killarney – Gateway To The North Channel

We had 2 great nights in Little Current and then we were on our way. We made the noon bridge opening with approximately 19 nautical miles to go today. The bridge was busy and it was bit before we lost other boat traffic and were on our own.

Again, there are a few different options for marinas but going on advice we had received we stayed at Killarney Mountain Lodge. Upon arriving they were busy, but they had the best crew we had met so far on this adventure. Red and his staff seemed to know what they were doing. Red could probably do it all on his own. Great job Red!! The only bad thing is they are busy. We had planned on staying 1 night and it was not long at all before we had a boat behind us and 2 on our starboard. We were not going anywhere. Now if we really had wanted to leave, we could have, they would have had the other boats move, but it was an interesting situation and not one we were real comfortable with.

There are a few options for dining out. We of course had to try Herbert Fisheries. It was okay, and is something nice to say you did, but the food will not blow you away. The Killarney Mtn. Lodge restaurant was great! The food is good. Lots of menu options and the service was very good! Great job Bri aka Orange Twist. They have put money into the lodge recently and you can tell. Heated outdoor pool, drinks at the Carousel Lounge, sauna, and much more!

There are museums and places for rentals (kayaks, canoes, etc.). There is also a great park you can hike to, Killarney Provincial Park. The lighthouse is a great bike ride. It was a little further than the lodge made it seem, but like Bridal Veil Falls, very well worth it! The views of Georgian Bay were great!

After 2 nights at the lodge we packed up the crew and were on our way. It was time to start heading back towards home. We had to wait until the 2 boats behind us left but then we were off.
